Molecular genetics can be used to study functional genes
|
Arctic Biodiversity Assessment (ABA) 2013. Figure 17.2. Molecular genetics can be used to study functional genes that are important in responding to environmental change or to identify individuals, and then determine relationships between individuals, populations (represented here by brown boxes), metapopulations (turquoise boxes) or species (light blue boxes). We explore how species have responded to change in the past (such as vicariant events that split larger groups into smaller groups), so that we can forecast how species will respond to changes in the future.
